5 Halloween Safety Tips
During Halloween season, parents want their children to have a fun time with their friends while also being safe and responsible. There are many precautions you can take, so we’ve gathered 5 Halloween safety tips that are important to teach your trick-or-treaters.
1. Stay in a well-lit area.
Depending on the time of your neighborhood or community trick-or-treating, it can get pretty dark! It’s important to teach your little ones to stay in well-lit areas, so they can see where they are going and others will be able to see them. Children also need to know to go to houses that are well-lit, as not to disturb someone who is not participating, and to also be able to be seen by others as they approach the home. It’s also a good idea to have a flashlight!
2. Follow the general road-safety rules.
While this should always be a safety precaution, it’s especially important during Halloween. With all the children going from home-to-home, it is essential they check both directions before crossing the street to the next home. Always stay on the sidewalks and use crosswalks if they’re available. If you’re in an area where this is not an option, be sure they know to use the general road rules!
3. Don’t approach a home alone.
When children are young, they should always be with an adult chaperone and approach homes with adults. This is a good idea to keep your children safe, make sure they stay with everyone, and are approaching homes that are well-lit. If your child is old enough to trick-or-treat alone, be sure he or she knows the importance of staying with a group and going up to homes together.
4. Check your children’s candy.
At the end of the night, we suggest checking your candy to make sure it all looks safe to eat. Younger children are excited to consume all the sugar they can get their hands on, so be sure to check that it is all factory made, there are no holes, and there is no suspicious candy.
5. Use a Picture Keeper Connect.
The Picture Keeper Connect does much more than backing up photos & videos. Its ability to backup contacts makes it an incredibly useful tool for Halloween safety! Simply backup emergency contacts onto the drive and send it with your trick-or-treater or the adult chaperone. Your child can then plug the Picture Keeper Connect into any iOS or Android device and make calls or send texts directly from the app. No WiFi or data is needed to use it, making it the perfect extra precaution for Halloween.
