What is the Cloud?
The cloud is a network of servers, and each server has a different function. Some servers deliver a service while others are responsible for storing data. “Cloud computing” means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer or smartphone’s hard drive. Some servers provide an online service, such as Google Docs, and others allow you to store and access data, like Google Drive or iCloud. Chances are, you encounter the cloud daily without even realizing it. So, why not just use the cloud for your storage needs?
Cloud Storage vs. Picture Keeper Storage:
Let’s break it down: “Cloud” is a buzzword that suggests the promise and convenience of being able to store and access files from anywhere. To put it simply, it’s an infrastructure of many computers housed in a massive warehouse all over the world. However, most of us find ourselves wondering where our data actually goes, how it gets there, and what happens to it on its way. When you store something in the cloud, you are actually storing it in a physical space. That file then slides across the wire and lives on a physical server in some far off place. These files usually end up being put in the possession of a giant corporation, creating cloud privacy concerns.
At Picture Keeper, we believe in removable storage for a number of reasons. First of all, the cloud can be confusing. For those that are a little less “tech savvy”, it’s hard to understand how to access files at any given time. Having a USB device at your fingertips helps to know exactly where your files are stored, putting you at ease. With Picture Keeper Connect, you can backup, protect and access your files without using data or having to be connected to Wi-Fi, unlike the cloud. The cloud also typically requires you to pay a monthly fee, especially if you want to increase your storage. Lastly, Picture Keeper Connect gives you the flexibility and simplicity to share your files with your family and friends, all through one simple device.
Backing up a phone that is iCloud enabled:
Retrieving your iCloud photos is simple. Picture Keeper Connect is designed to identify and download files that are previously stored in the iCloud. Essentially, if your iCloud is enabled, your files can still be downloaded to Picture Keeper Connect with the same full resolution and picture clarity.
To turn on the iCloud Photos option:
- Tap the “Settings” tab at the bottom right-hand side of the screen.
2. Next, click “Help”.
3. Select “Advanced Options” at the bottom of the screen.
4. Lastly, toggle on the “Backup iCloud” option.
Gain peace of mind with Picture Keeper, knowing that your precious memories and documents are safe, secure and easily accessible. Never worry that your important files are being accessed by anyone but YOU! Picture Keeper Connect gives you the power to easily protect and backup your smartphone, tablet and computer – all with one device!
